The new Nike React Infinity Run can reduce injuries by 52%, who wouldn’t want that? I don’t know, but we’re going to take a look and find out more on this episode of The MOVEMENT Movement podcast, the podcast for people who want to know the truth about what it takes to have a happy, healthy, strong body starting with the feet first.

  1. FYI, I received some info from BCSMRF… not the complete study; just a synopsis that doesn’t have anything materially different than what Nike has said. The full manuscript is being finished, they tell me.

  2. It amazes me that people think you need a study to know something that is already obvious (and generally known anyway). I bet they’d get even better results if they commissioned a study to see how those shoes did relative to people running in stiletto heels. Remember that people needed studies to prove smoking is bad for you? (Who didn’t know that anyway?-one puff and choking seems like all it would take) It seems more relevant to ask for a study to prove that cushioned shoes with heels (and whatever other idiotic features you can throw in there) do ANY good relative to bare feet; ‘minimalist’ shoes, or moccasins and the like.

If I walk wearing most commercially available shoes (heel rise, cushioned, etc.), it hurts. When I walk wearing Xero shoes (or other ‘barefoot’ shoes) it doesn’t hurt. Conclusion: Don’t wear shoes that hurt. There you go. Study done. Independent. Free.

Here’s another one: Pollution is bad, it makes people feel ill. If ANYone consumes polluted water or air, they don’t feel good. Conclusion: Don’t do things that make you feel ill (like pollute). You don’t need a study for that. It doesn’t matter if there’s global warming or not-we just need to pollute as little as possible, so we don’t feel ill. Fixes the global warming issue in the process. If we could use a little ‘common sense’, everything would be better. How hard is this? “Don’t be stupid”

  3. I guess they’re claiming that you do a midfoot strike because the rocker bottom causes you to? You try to heel strike and the rocker artificially brings the ground up to your midfoot. Or something.

“Got your goat” comes from horse racing. Thoroughbred horses are very high-strung, anxious animals, especially on race days. They are way happier and calmer when they have a little goat friend to hang out with, so they would travel with goats. It became a thing to steal an opponent’s goat out of the stall to make the horse freak out and therefore underperform at the race. I guess in the analogy, you’d be the horse itself, not the horse owner, but maybe it’s both.

    • I LOVE that I now know where “get your goat” comes from 😉

Interestingly, the people who have studied Nike’s new shoes have reported an improvement in VO2Max, but they have also said they don’t know WHY that’s happening.

A few people have posited theories (many of which are clearly not valid), but nothing has been demonstrably true.
