Join me for a Friday rant session with good friend, Nick of thefootcollective.com. On this episode of The MOVEMENT Movement podcast, we talk about natural movement, the ideal human diet, body movement, running on hard surfaces and so much more…
We Didn’t Evolve This Way
I have received emails saying, this whole idea of using footwear like ours, that doesn’t have a bunch of cushioning and padding and motion control in our support. Or, even walking and running barefoot. That it’s not good. It’s not what you’re supposed to do. Only amazingly, wonderfully talented gifted genetic freak people can actually do it, because we didn’t evolve to stand on hard surfaces or run on pavement. So let me give you the shortest version of today’s podcast…that’s complete nonsense.
Katy Bowman – Are You Walking Wrong?
Walking is one of the most fundamental things that human beings do. Walking on two legs is what makes us human beings. What if we’re all doing it wrong? That’s right. The simplest thing, walking, are we’re doing it wrong? We’re going to find out on today’s episode of The MOVEMENT Movement podcast. My guest today is Katy Bowman, an internationally recognized biomechanist, author, and science communicator. Katy has both the skill and passion for reintroducing movement into people’s everyday lives.
The Best and WORST Shoes to Wear with Orthotics
What’s the worst shoe that you could wear if you’re wearing orthotics? And, what’s the best shoe that you can wear if you’re wearing orthotics? If you’re going to wear orthotics or insoles, you need to be very careful about what you’re putting them in. Because, if you put them in the wrong shoe, it can make whatever situation you’re dealing with, worse.
The Most Dangerous Shoes in the World
Can shoes be dangerous? Oh yes, they can. They can be be very dangerous. Today, we are going to talk about the most dangerous shoes in the world, right here on The MOVEMENT Movement podcast. So here’s where this whole dangerous shoe thing came from, someone I was talking to recently said that he went to a running shoe store and they won’t sell shoes like Xero Shoes because they’re dangerous, the most dangerous shoes ever, he said…
The Problem With Stretching
You want to warm up for a run or a hike or a workout, so you’ve got to stretch… Right? What if that is the worst thing you could possibly do? Well, we’re going to find out more about that on today’s episode with my guest Kathleen McDonough, PT MA NCPT. Kathleen holds a BA in Exercise Physiology/Physical Education, UC Davis and an MA in Physical Therapy, Stanford University.
Get Fit and Strong Without a Gym
Research is really clear for runners, walkers, hikers, getting stronger is better, and now you can’t go to the gym, but you might want to go back to the gym. I’m going to try and talk you out of that with my guest today, Al Kavadlo. Al started working out in 1992 when he was just 13 years old. A decade later he began his career in the fitness industry.
Change Your Gait, Change Your Life
What are the most important lessons you could learn about getting in shape that you would get from 90-year-olds who were in a mall? We’re going to find out why that may be true, and we have much, much more with Dr. Courtney Conley in today’s episode of The MOVEMENT Movement Podcast.
How to NOT Pick a Good Shoe
I’m going to give you some negative advice, how to not pick a good running shoe on today’s episode of The MOVEMENT Movement podcast. I think it’s important to know how not to do things in order to inform how to do things. Even when I’m teaching people how to run naturally or run barefoot, I’ll often have them exaggerate bad patterns because that way it really highlights what that pattern is and makes it easier to start doing something different.
What Shoes Did Jesus Wear?
What shoes did Jesus wear? Or Moses or Muhammad or Buddha? Well, we’re going to take a look at that in today’s episode of The MOVEMENT Movement, the podcast where people will want to know the truth about what it takes to have a happy, healthy, strong body starting with the feet first, because those things are your foundation.
